MIM revels in a neon-hued happiness on the infinitely infectious “Expired Warranty”.
Full of poppy hooks these are high-energy songs with hope. Arrangements are impeccable with the right mixture of righteousness and brash beauty. Lyrically the songs deal with the hardships in life, navigating relationships and love. Such universal themes are delivered with great passion
by MIM’s silky smooth vocals. When paired with the array of styles employed throughout the album whether rock, electro, country, among many more,
MIM’s vocals positively shine through.
Things start off on a bold note with the fantastically rich sound of “So Much Love to Give”. On “Forget” MIM takes on a slightly different stance, akin to Jon Brion’s off-kilter elegant pieces. As the piece unfolds it reveals MIM’s attention to detail. Defiant at its very core is independent-minded work of “Screw You”. The song comes into bloom as the song’s lyrics tell a story of someone seeking freedom from a rotten relationship. Giddiness marks the album highlight, the bouncy work of “Bored but Clever”. Hyperactive the song’s insistent bass line helps drive the song forward. This energy continues on MIM’s cover of “Maniac” by Michael Sembello. A twee sensibility rules over the charming “Law of Attraction”. The flirtatious nature of the lyricism works as does the clever choice of instrumentation. Ending things on an introspective note is the tender “Escaped Bird”.
Pop reaches pure perfection on the undeniably excellent “Expired Warranty” which shows off MIM’s passion and personality.
